Join us for the ICTR Community Health Research Showcase, featuring the ICTR Predoctoral Clinical Research Program (TL1) Trainees (Cohort 2022), Monday, April 18, 2022 and Monday, May 2, 2022, 5 PM – 6:30 PM via Zoom. This two-part virtual event is presented by the ICTR Community and Collaboration Core and the Community Research Advisory Council.
This showcase highlights research projects conducted by the trainees from Johns Hopkins University, Morgan State University, and the University of Maryland Baltimore that examine health and social concerns impacting diverse communities.
Over a three-month period, trainees consulted with the Community Research Advisory Council to ensure that these projects reflected the health priorities of individuals within the Greater Baltimore-Washington region.
WHAT TO EXPECT
Attendees will participate in breakout sessions that include:
– Brief health research presentations
– Interactive discussions in which TL 1 Trainees provide research project updates
– Community members reflect on experience collaborating with research trainees
TARGET AUDIENCE
Community members, faculty, staff, students, and scientists. All individuals with an interest in community health and research are welcome to attend.

Cancer, Child and Adolescent Health, Clinical Innovation, Family Health History, Food Access, HIV/AIDS, Mental Health, and Palliative Care.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION
The Johns Hopkins Institute for Clinical and Translational Research (ICTR) recognizes the importance of promoting research that engages communities.
In 2020, the ICTR’s Community and Collaboration Core and its Community Research Advisory Council (C-RAC) partnered with the Predoctoral Clinical Research Training (TL 1) Program to provide research trainees from Johns Hopkins University, Morgan State University, and the University of Maryland with an opportunity to include community stakeholders in the planning and implementation of their research projects.
TL1 Trainees observe a C-RAC Community-Engaged Research Consultation involving a senior research investigator. Trainees present their research projects in the Fall for an initial session followed by the Spring Showcase to the ICTR’s Community Research Advisory Council (C-RAC). The C-RAC provides feedback regarding study design and describes how each research topic impacts individuals living in the Greater Baltimore-Washington region.
ABOUT THE COLLABORATORS
The Community Research Advisory Council, founded in 2009, provides input to research teams on how to successfully and equitably engage with communities in research throughout the study life cycle, from planning to implementation to dissemination. The C-RAC includes 23 representatives from community, academic and health systems partners, clinical research networks, health departments, community health centers, patients, advocacy groups, community-based organizations and the business sector.
The ICTR Community and Collaboration Core aims to bring researchers, community partners, and stakeholders to share their knowledge, skills and resources with a common goal of improving community health. We offer investigators, research teams,’ consultation, training, and a toolkit of evidence-based community-engaged research resources.
The ICTR Predoctoral Clinical Research Training (TL1) Program trains students pursuing careers in clinical and translational research. The program provides funding and training for students from the Johns Hopkins Schools of Medicine, Nursing, and Public Health and Center for BioEngineering Innovation & Design and the Morgan State University Doctor of Public Health (DrPH) program.
