Project Title: Identifying Barriers and Facilitators to Overdose Response and Improving Overdose Care Provision among Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Clinicians
Dr. Uzzi’s study will increase the understanding of how and in what context EMS clinicians provide overdose care to patients. Moreover, the study will explore bioethical frameworks to support the improvement of overdose care provision by EMS clinicians.

Project Title: Using Mixed Methods to Identify Deterrents for College Student Diversion of Prescription Stimulants
Dr. Aluri’s study will use mixed methods to develop and test a conceptual model of prescription stimulant diversion (PSD) among college students to identify potential deterrents of PSD. He will also obtain clinician perspectives on how those deterrents might be translated to clinical interactions. His research aims to develop interventions to reduce prescription stimulant diversion and misuse among college students and other young adults.

Project Title: COMPASS – Clinical Opioid Management through Predictive Access and Spatial Science
Dr. Fredericks’ research examines how spatial access to medications for opioid use disorder shapes treatment engagement and acute care reutilization in the weeks after an emergency department visit, with particular attention to how objective access measures, patient-reported barriers, and EHR-based social determinants converge to drive early treatment failure. His work ultimately aims to translate these findings into an ED-based clinical decision support tool that matches patients to the MOUD modality and treatment setting their geography can support.
