How to Apply to the K12 Research in Addictions Scholars Program (KRASP)

Applications

Applications must include all components and supporting documents to be considered complete. It is the applicant’s responsibility to prepare and collect each component and to monitor the status of their application. We recommended that applicants complete the recommendation section of their application early, to send requests to their recommenders, and then continue to work on their application. Incomplete applications will not be considered.

Directions to Apply

Create an account as a first-time user in Slate.

Select the NIDA K12 Research in Addictions Scholars Program (KRASP) as the program.

Complete each section of the application. Please follow all instructions outlined in the application and below.

Request to recommenders can be sent while continuing to work on the remainder of the application.

Application Requirements

Personal Statement

Follow the instructions in the application. This should be a maximum of 3 pages, single spaced, 12-point font.

Research Proposal with Plans for Future Grant Submission

Follow the instructions in the application. This should be a maximum of 2-5 pages, single spaced, 12-point font.

Plans and Justification for Proposed Advanced Didactic Training

Follow the instructions in the application. This should be a maximum of 1-2 pages, single spaced, 12-point font.

Curriculum Vitae

This should be in the JH SOM format.

Nomination Letter from Primary Mentor **

Applicants should indicate who should receive notification for this recommendation in their online application. Mentors will receive an email and should follow the instructions provided when completing their nomination letter.

Nomination Letter from Division/Department Director/Chair **

Applicants should indicate who will receive notification for this recommendation in their online application. The Division/Department Director/Chair will receive an email and should follow the instructions provided when completing their nomination letter.

Primary Mentors NIH Biosketch & Other Support

Upload a copy of the applicant’s primary mentor’s biosketch where indicated. If the applicant will have a secondary mentor writing a letter of recommendation, include a copy of their biosketch as well.

One Additional Letter of Recommendation

One letter of recommendation from a faculty member, or a past mentor/advisor, who can assess the applicant’s ability should be submitted as this “Additional Letter of Recommendation”. This letter is in addition to the nomination letters and should not be written by the primary mentor or department/division director. If there is a secondary mentor, then this Additional Letter of Recommendation will be used for that secondary mentor’s letter.

 

**The mentor and division/department nomination letters may be written together or as separate letters. If written together then the letter should be uploaded twice to fulfill both the mentor nomination and division/director nomination requirement. It is the applicant’s responsibility to ensure the letter(s) are uploaded by the due date.
