The Introduction to Clinical Research Summer Course provides an intensive introduction to clinical research methods, emphasizing epidemiological and biostatistical methods. Instructors are Dr. Daniel Ford, MD, MPH, Director, Johns Hopkins Institute for Clinical and Translational Research at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine and Dr. Karen Bandeen-Roche, PhD, MS, the Hurley Dorrier Professor and Chair in Biostatistics at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health.
Upon completion, students will be able to:
- Describe the steps involved in conducting clinical research.
- Review and evaluate the main study designs used in clinical research: case-control, cohort, clinical trials, cross-sectional and meta-analyses.
- Prepare and review a research project.
Instruction is expected to be offered online via zoom. Any updates will be announced via email to registered students and on the ICTR website. SOM Fellows may register for credit at no extra cost. Reference the ICTR course website for full course information including registration instructions, course dates, and detailed schedule information. Students must submit an abstract for a research project prior to the beginning of the course. Instructions will be sent in an email after registration.
The weeklong intensive course will run July 11-15th. The official start of the course is July 1st though some course requirements will be completed online the week of July 5th. A detailed schedule will be sent to students after registration and will also be available on the ICTR website.
