It is the applicant’s responsibility to prepare and collect each component and to monitor the status of their application. We recommended that applicants complete the recommendation section of their application early, to send request to their recommenders, and then continue to work on their application. Applying early is encouraged. Interested applicants must be U.S. citizens or permanent U.S. residents.
School of Medicine Applicants
The PCRTP serves as an adjunct to other research-oriented training. As such, applicants must first apply to a degree program which may include those listed below. See program websites for specific application deadlines and instructions. Students planning to apply/enroll in other similar degree programs should first consult with the PCRTP Program Administrator to ensure that the program is a good fit.

School of Nursing Applicants
This program is only open to trainees who will be entering their 2nd year or higher in the SON PhD program at time of matriculation (July 1 following application).
- The selection committee will need to review your previous PhD application. Once you have completed the PCRTP application, you must e-mail the PCRTP Program Administrator a completed copy of the attached form stating that you allow access of your PhD application to the PCRTP Reviewers.

Morgan State University Applicants
This program is only open to trainees who will be entering their 2nd year or higher in the DrPH program or other research-oriented doctoral program at time of matriculation (July 1 following application).
Instructions for PCRTP Application
- Create an account as a first-time user in SLATE.
- Select Preclinical Research Training Program (PCRTP) as the program.
- Complete each section of the application. Please follow all instructions outlined in the application and below.
- Request to recommenders can be sent while continuing to work on the remainder of the application.
- You can begin the application, save your data and return to submit.
- Applicants will not be able to utilize materials from the MPH/MHS/MSE or SON SLATE application.

Statement of Purpose
1-2 pages only, single-spaced, 12-point font. Please describe:
- Your career objectives, interest and/or experience in at least one of the clinical research areas
- A proposed research idea or project that you anticipate working on during your year in the PCRTP
Letter of Recommendation from a Research Mentor
