The Stoop Storytelling Series, started by Laura Wexler and Jessica Henkin in 2006, is a Baltimore-based organization that empowers individuals and builds community through the sharing of personal stories. Their live shows and podcast feature everyday people telling the extraordinary true tales of their lives. They also organize workshops that offer skills and support for everyone to share their tales. Since its inception, The Stoop has become a beloved Baltimore institution with nearly 4,000 participants so far.

The Community and Collaboration Core (CCC) Dissemination Showcase Series @ ICTR is a virtual presentation bringing the art and science of effective lay dissemination to the Johns Hopkins community. The series features teams from across Hopkins and beyond who have successfully translated their work into community-facing resources.

Each month, the series spotlights a dissemination resource or effort—be it a digital campaign, video series, print material, podcast, or event—and delves into the strategies, challenges, and lessons learned in the process. By focusing on real-world examples, the series aims to support research teams in identifying feasible ways to share their work with study participants, communities, and other stakeholders.

Dissemination is a vital component of the research lifecycle that shouldn’t stop with publications and conferences. This showcase encourages researchers to go beyond academia to return results to the people their research is intended to serve.
