Effective May 2018, Clinical Research Units are now operating using a service center model.
The National Center for Advancing Translational Sciences (NCATS) of the National Institutes of Health (NIH), which supports the ICTR Clinical Research Units (CRUs) through its Clinical and Translational Science Award (CTSA) program, announced in 2014 that direct support of the CRUs will not be allowed for any new or re-competing CTSA awards. Our CRUS have been a major source of support for investigators throughout Johns Hopkins and this change in policy will have a significant impact on our future ICTR operations.
Consequently, in May 2018, our CRUs began to operate using a service center model; therefore, CRU charges will need to be included in budgets for all future grant applications that request these services.
In order to help you plan for the future, we developed a list of charges for CRU usage, including the Johns Hopkins Hospital and Bayview campuses, and the Pediatric CRU. We recommend that you use this charge list to develop budgets for current and future NIH and foundation grant applications. We were told that all NIH institutes and centers have been informed of this change in NCATS policy regarding the CTSAs, and should expect to see these costs reflected in future grant budgets.
