ICTR COVID-19 Clinical Research Center Town Hall June 9
This Town Hall examines the impact of media coverage on COVID-19 research across the United States. Over the past year, COVID-19 has dominated the media in the U.S. and abroad. This coverage has often included reporting on COVID-19 clinical research, whether it be the convalescent plasma or vaccination efforts. This has undoubtedly shaped public opinion regarding clinical research, at a time when investigators are seeking participants to take part in their studies.
We will discuss:
- The impact of health-related misinformation and disinformation on the public health response to COVID-19 (including research)
- The role of scientists and public health researchers in communicating findings to the public
- The benefits and challenges of using media for study recruitment
We will also provide an overview of the ethical issues related to each topic.
Host:
