SUMMARY:2025 ICTR Team Science Workshop
DESCRIPTION:The Science (and Practice) of Teamwork: 40 Years of Progress\nThe first 50 registrants will receive a free copy of Dr. Salas’ Book\, Teams That Work: The Seven Drivers of Team Effectiveness\, mailed to them at no cost. (One copy per person/address and only domestic US registrants are eligible to receive the free copy of the book. The book will be sent to you after the event\, once your participation is confirmed.) \nInterdisciplinary teams are the cornerstone of modern research organizations. Building on decades of scientific research into the factors driving effective teamwork\, this talk will introduce actionable principles and strategies for getting the most out of your research team. From forming and structuring your team\, to managing day to day work\, and growing and maturing your team over time\, there is a practical science to inform you. \nObjectives\n1) Provide a broad overview of the science of teams;\n2) Introduce practiced\, evidence-based strategies for managing inter-disciplinary research teams;\n3) Discuss the future of the science and practice of teamwork. \nTarget Audience\nThis workshop is appropriate for any Johns Hopkins or ICTR partner researcher interested in improving their ability to lead or work within interdisciplinary research teams effectively. Interdisciplinary research teams can look like many things. It might be cross-school collaborations (e.g.\, Medicine\, Public Health\, Nursing\, Engineering\, Arts & Sciences\, Education\, or Business)\, collaborations across different department or fields of study\, or collaborations with different types of organizations and institutions (e.g.\, community-academic partnerships). Whether you are starting a new team or seeking to enhance the effectiveness of your current team\, this workshop will provide you with insights and tools to apply in your work. \nSpeaker Bio\nEduardo Salas\, Ph.D. is the Allyn R. & Gladys M. Cline Professor of Psychological Sciences at Rice University. A prolific author and active consultant\, he has published over 680 articles and chapters and his work has been cited over 140\,000 times. Eduardo has consulted in a wide range of manufacturing\, pharmaceutical\, industrial\, healthcare\, and governmental organizations\, and has designed team training and tools for use by teams in oil and gas\, aviation\, military\, aerospace\, law enforcement\, and medical environments. He has been a pioneer in the development of TeamSTEPPS for healthcare and TeamMAPPS for interdisciplinary research\, as well as TeamFIRST at UTSW. He was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award for Contributions to Psychology from American Psychological Association (2016); Society for Human Resource Management Losey Lifetime Achievement Award (2012); Joseph E.
