Information Regarding COVID-19 and the Clinical Research Units

March 6, 2020

The Johns Hopkins Institute of Clinical and Translation Research (ICTR) Clinical Research Units (JHH Adult CRU, JHH Pediatric CRU and JH Bayview CRU) want to communicate our policies and procedures with respect to the evolving COVID-19 situation.

1. CRUs follow COVID-19 screening and management procedures for ambulatory clinics and triage according to guidance from the Johns Hopkins Medicine Hospital and Epidemiology and Infection Control (HEIC).

2. Study teams should perform COVID-19 screening of participants before they present to the CRU and discourage individuals with respiratory symptoms from attending in-person visits. Reschedule study visits for when the participant is symptom free. A phone screening algorithm is provided at

3. Study teams should devise a contingency plan for possible interruption in clinical research that includes but not limited to interruption in study team staffing, CRU staffing, study medication availability and administration, and participant cancellations.

4. Study teams should check Johns Hopkins Medicine guidance frequently for updates to policies and procedures in this evolving COVID-19 situation.

5. Study teams should visit the ICTR and the IRB websites for information regarding COVID-19 impact on clinical research.

As the CRU leadership, we are committed to keeping the CRUs open and safe for research participants and staff. If you or your team have any concerns or questions, please reach out to one of us directly or Nicole Cooper, ICTR Senior Administrative Manager at
