K-to-R Transition Program

The “K-to-R” Transition Program was implemented in response to the growing need to enhance the transition from mentored career development awards (K’s) to independent awards (R’s). The ICTR’s Training, Education, & Career Development Programs has partnered with the Office of Faculty Development and the Professional Development and Career Office to provide oversight, support, resources, and networking opportunities for K-level mentored awardees. To address some of the needs and overcome the barriers identified, this program links available resources for preparation of future R grant submissions, including individual or small group mentoring and an annual retreat for engaged mentored awardees.

We encourage all mentored level faculty to get in touch. If we cannot direct you to the resource you desire, we will work with you to develop offerings to address that need.
We also offer a series of events and workshops during the academic year (September-May). These events are geared to provide peer-facilitated review, social support, and networking opportunities to discuss and share information on various topics as relevant, including, but not limited to: developing the research plan, responding to reviewers, writing progress reports, hiring Research Assistants, research resources, identifying other funding, building mentoring teams, work-life integration, preparing R applications, IRB, publications, specific aims reviews, and promotions. The groups are encouraged and open to all mentored level faculty.
